Why is Labour popular right now?

The incumbent Labour government in the UK has called a General Election for 6 May 2010. Labour trail the Tory party in the polls by 4 to 10 points, however, quirks of the UK's electoral system mean that even the largest leads for the Tories are unlikely to give them a majority in the House of Commons.
